About the Programme

The Civil Aviation Transportation Management Program is conducted within the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics. It was established in 1995 under the name Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School, moved to its current service building in 1997, and was affiliated with Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University in 2006, adopting the name Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics in 2026. The Civil Aviation Transportation Management Program has been accepting students since 2018 and continues its educational activities as one of the programs aimed at training qualified human resources for the aviation sector.

The main objective of the program is to train graduates who can take roles in passenger and cargo transportation, ground services, terminal processes, airport operations, and aviation management in the field of civil aviation, possessing professional knowledge and practical skills, and who can adapt to the needs of the sector. The program aims for students to gain competencies in planning, coordination, communication, operations management, and service quality.

The rapidly developing aviation sector requires equipped employees in areas such as time management, cost efficiency, safety, operational coordination, and customer satisfaction. In this regard, the program primarily aims to train its students to work in both public and private sectors. Graduates can have the opportunity to work in airline companies, airports, ground service companies, air cargo businesses, tourism enterprises, the State Airports Authority, and various institutions related to civil aviation. Additionally, graduates can also gain the right to continue to undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Exam.

Programme Mission

To train professionals who are knowledgeable about civil aviation regulations, conduct ground services and airport processes in accordance with safety and security requirements, work according to team resource management principles, and communicate in aviation English.

Programme Educational Objectives

PEA1: Graduates carry out passenger, ground, operations, ramp, and cargo services in airport and airline businesses in accordance with national and international regulations.

PEA2: Graduates apply safety, security, occupational health and safety, and quality requirements in civil aviation activities.

PEA3: Graduates produce analytical solutions to professional problems using aviation information systems and digital tools.

PEA4: Graduates work according to team resource management principles, communicate effectively in Turkish and aviation English, and plan their professional development.

Programme Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the programme achieve the following programme outcomes (PO):

  1. Explains the fundamental concepts related to civil aviation.
  2. Explains national and international aviation regulations and standards.
  3. Defines atmospheric meteorological conditions, lists hazardous meteorological phenomena for flight, and interprets aviation-specific meteorological reports and documentation.
  4. Implements passenger services, ground handling, flight operations, ramp, cargo, and airport management processes in civil air transport management.
  5. Applies requirements for safety, security, occupational health and safety, environment, and quality in civil air transport activities.
  6. Analyzes professional problems and case studies in the field and develops appropriate solution proposals.

  8. Utilizes information technologies, digital systems, and artificial intelligence-supported tools in professional applications.
  9. Conducts professional duties through teamwork; takes responsibility in accordance with Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles and in unforeseen circumstances.
  10. Expresses knowledge and evaluations regarding civil air transportation in written and oral forms, utilizing the Turkish language accurately and effectively.
  11. Monitors field-related information and establishes professional communication using a foreign language, including Aviation English.
  12. Evaluates data, documents, and implementation processes related to the field within the framework of social, cultural, and ethical responsibility.
  13. Monitors current developments in the field and plans learning requirements for professional development.

Internship

In the Civil Aviation Transportation Management Program, students must complete a 20 working days mandatory internship as a graduation requirement. The internship is carried out in public or private sector organizations suitable for the professional field of the program, in accordance with the internship calendar determined by the Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Vocational Schools Internship Directive and the School Board.

Graduates who successfully complete the program can work in the following areas:

  • Passenger services, operations, planning, and sales units of airline companies
  • Ground service organizations (passenger, ramp, cargo, representation)
  • Airport operations and terminal management

  • If conditions are met, DHMI and the General Directorate of Civil Aviation

Accreditation

The Civil Aviation Transportation Management Program of Bucak Hikmet Tolunay Vocational School of Transportation and Logistics has been entitled to receive MEDEK accreditation for the period of 01.01.2025 - 31.12.2026 as a result of the evaluation process conducted by the Vocational Education Assessment and Accreditation Association.

 

The educational activities of the program are regularly reviewed and developed in line with a continuous improvement approach.

 

MEDEK accreditation indicates that the program has been evaluated according to the established criteria regarding its educational processes, student-centered practices, academic staff, program outcomes, assessment and evaluation processes, quality assurance approach, and continuous improvement efforts.

 

The Civil Aviation Transportation Management Program sees improving educational quality, training graduates that meet the expectations of the sector, supporting students' professional and personal development, and continuing improvement activities in line with stakeholder opinions as its fundamental goals within the accreditation process.

 

Our program continues its quality assurance efforts with the MEDEK accreditation valid between 01.01.2025 - 31.12.2026 and strengthens its mission to train qualified human resources needed by the aviation sector.
